Mission Statement
The mission of our school is to provide a high quality, comprehensive and meaningful education for all students, including ELL's and Special Education students, to reach a high level of academic achievement as determined by State Standards.
This achievement will be measured by ongoing assessments and data analysis. We are committed to a comprehensive system of support to assure that every student will be prepared to succeed in life so that they can reach their maximum, individual potential.

2009-2010 Top Identified Instructional Priorities
1. To close the achievement gap in English Language Arts so that 90% of students in grade 3 score levels 3 and 4 on the exam.
2. To close the achievement gap in mathematics so that 100% of students in grade 3 score levels 3 and 4 on the exam.
3. To improve student attendance to an average rate of 96%.
4. To increase reading and writing comprehension skills through the use of Document Based Questions and Short Reading Response Questions.
5. To establish learning goals for every student in all subject areas so that they have a better understanding of their next steps in learning all subjects (Social Studies, Science, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Art, Dance, Physical Education, Spanish and Music).
6. To integrate and use technology in the classrooms using a rotational schedule and technology-based projects.
7. To differentiate instruction (tiering, cubing, Multiple Intelligences/VAK, Bloom's Taxonomy, learning centers/stations, interest/choice) based on data analysis, including all sub-groups (Special Education, English Language Learners, Gender-Based, Holdovers, New admits, etc.)
8. To monitor student performance by using grade-level benchmarks and submitting school-wide data monthly to the principal/assistant principals for disaggregation.
9. To improve instruction in all curriculum areas and monitor student performance by using benchmark/assessments across all subject areas (ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Music, Art, Dance, Physical Education, and Spanish).
10. To build stamina in independent reading and writing.
11. To systematically review student work/assessments and strategically analyse and use data for each subject area each month using a grade-wide/subject specific standards-based rubric.
12. To deepen student learning by strengthening interdisciplinary planning and assessment systems so that we are challenging all students at all levels (intervention, prevention and enrichment).
13. To implement 50/50 model in our dual language program in grades PreK-3.
100 Book Challenge
It is a reading program designed to get students to read. In order to do this, your child will come home every night with one or more books and a log sheet in a folder. We want your child to read each night and to enjoy what he/she reads. We do not want reading to be a struggle or to be hard.
Children will read books on their own reading level where they feel comfortable and can read all the words. The important thing is that children have fun reading. Research has shown that the more a student reads the more successful he/she will be in school.
Some suggestions to do every night to help your child become a better reader.
1. Provide the time and opportunity for your child to read his 100 Book Challenge color-coded book every day.
2. Make sure your child has a relaxed, comfortable place to read.
3. Encourage your child to read his/her book silently. Provide help only if needed.
4. Sign your child's log after he/she reads.
